Day 3: Created 2 Video Tutorials and Trimmed 4 Trees #endoor

Thursdays are trash days in our neighborhood and getting the task of getting the trash to the road is my responsibility. I know what you are thinking, “how incredibly boring”.  After I left the can at the curb and turned to come back to the house I noticed our trees could sure use a good trim. I thought I would just do one and then save the rest for another day. After I started trimming, I really got into it and trimmed 3 more. They look so much better. Sadly, trimming my trees took up most of the morning and didn’t move me one inch toward finishing my podcast tutorial project. I still have more trees to trim too. They will have to wait!

This afternoon I did complete 2 more training videos for our podcast training product.

Making video tutorials is a lot more work than I had anticipated. It seems about 10 minutes of work goes into each 1 minute of a completely edited video that is ready for my future students. I have purchased video training before and now I have a new appreciation for the work that the producer put into their product to educate me.

Tomorrow morning we release another podcast episode featuring Katherine Keller. She has a courageous story and has come a long way in her entrepreneurial journey as a single mom. Lately she was asked to be a featured writer for Entrepreneur Magazine I think. I will have to listen to what she said in the podcast.

Anywhoo, I’ve completed 9 video tutorials now with about 12 more to go. I think – at least I hope – the more challenging videos are behind me. I had another one today that took me much longer than I expected.  Sometimes in the middle of a project things seem to turn from excitement to work. I have to push through to finish this product. There is a lot riding on its release to the public.

I worked from 5:00 to 5:25 today. I think I am going to take the rest of the night off. I can’t be for sure though because if I sometimes wake in the middle of the night to come down to the office to work some more.

Thanks for following my progress. I really didn’t have to much of an issue with any kind of fear today.

Talk soon.

John

P.S. I had lunch with Arnold and he kept trying to get me to reveal my business secrets. Arnold is a pretty good guy so what do you think? Should I give him my sales secrets?

Day 2: Uploaded a New Podcast Episode, Created 3 Video Tutorials and Kicked Fear in the Pants #endoor

Life threw me a couple of curve balls today and knocked me off my axis for a couple of hours. I took some deep breaths and got back in the saddle.

The first thing we did was upload episode #24 this morning with Dr. Steve Taubman. Man, I sure enjoyed getting to know this guy. He was very interesting. If you are reading this message you should drop everything you are doing and go to http://EntrepreneurNextDoor.net/024 and listen to this episode. Dr. Steve is great and will help you remove the mental blocks that may be holding you back. I practiced some of the things I learned from him on the episode with  him today and it had an amazing affect on me.

Sometimes you plan on a task taking a certain amount of time but then it ends up taking much more than you thought. Such was the case during one of the video tutorial I produced today. I produced a PicMonkey tutorial and it took me a while to figure out how to produce a radial gradient in PicMonkey. I’m obsessed with producing the best possible product for those who want to podcast. I felt like ditching the PicMonkey tutorial, after all, nobody would notice. Except me! So I took about 2.5 hours to figure out how to create the radial gradient graphic in PicMonkey. I’m glad I did.

Because of the extra time involved in the PicMonkey tutorial, I only finished 3 video tutorials today. So far, I’ve completed 7 tutorials. I think I will pick up pace tomorrow.

My fears are leaving me as I ONLY concentrate on product creation. With each video I create I visualize somebody in the room with me as I teach. I really want to connect with people as I train, even though this product will be a digital download.

I realize the next challenge will be establishing the website and membership platform as soon as the videos are completed. Then the true test begins as I begin to release information to the public. This is the part that makes me nervous, so I don’t think about it right now so I can get the course completed.

I kicked fear in the pants several times today.

For those of you that may be wondering what tools I am using to create my podcast course, here they are:

  • Computer: iMac 27″ retina
  • Microphone: Heil PR40
  • Camera: Built in camera on my iMac
  • Mixer: Mackie 1402
  • Processor: Behringer MDX 4600
  • Screen Capture Software: Screenflow
  • And I’m using a pop up green screen behind my office chair to give a little awesomeness to each tutorial at the beginning.

So there you have it. I began work at 5:00 a.m., took a couple hours off to be with Jan and am quitting for the day at 7:25 p.m.

This is John signing off for the day.

May you have . . .

Much Continued Success,

John

P.S. Talk again tomorrow.
